Mission Statement
If it’s not entertaining, what’s the point? That was the starting point for me.
My father introduced me to the written word as a boy and I’ve been a reader ever since. I love reading and, as a child, I enjoyed writing stories for myself and my schoolmates. Though I “grew out of” my desire to write when I entered my teen years, I never stopped reading. I hadn’t changed.
Like most of the infotainment industry, the books changed. Gradually, as I aged, I noticed the replacement of heroes with anti-heroes, the removal of concepts such as good and evil, and a turn to an atheist, materialist cynicism. Our movies, television programs and our books became enemies of our culture and all we believe.
Then, I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy and was captivated by its depth, its sophistication and the brilliantly woven tapestry of underlying Christian themes. But after that, the Silmarillion and the Hobbit, there was nothing more as J.R.R. Tolkien completed so few works in his lifetime.
There were a few Christian authors I read, usually only one book from each, but I never read anything else that I really enjoyed. It wasn’t a case of the message, but style. I thought that we, as Christians, should be able to produce a wider variety of works and I asked myself the question: Could I do better?
And so, here we are. I wanted to produce entertaining, Christian-themed fantasy. It has to be both – entertaining and Christian-themed. If it’s not entertaining, what’s the point?
That was my mission and, I feel, my calling. I’d never know unless I tried. I’d never know if this was His voice whispering to me until I tried and found out.
